Cars & Chicharonnes

Earlier this week I got a heads up about an early mornin’ hang. The odds of me making it to an event in the AM these days is far greater than if anything is happening in the later hours. This marks the first event hosted by “Outlaw’d Performance”, and say what you want about the event name, gotta hand it to them for being a little more original.

For it being their first event, the turnout was pretty chill. These things don’t explode overnight, contrary to what the online crowd wants you to think. But the important thing is having the ability to move forward in making things happen. An area was secured and they were able to get some food and drinks out there. Now is that all it takes? Yes and no. Consistency is key, especially when there seems to be new hosts and various type of events . There’s been “cars and coffee’s”, “cars and chicken” (random, but whatever), “cars & boba”, and others popping up frequently.
As I pulled up, I was waved over by someone organizing the parking area. I let them know I probably wasn’t going to stay that long, and I’m more there for media coverage. I pulled up next to the food truck that was sending out orders of breakfast tacos and coffee’s already. I’m not big on eating early, but my family swears these were some of the best they’ve had.
As I made my way over to start at the far end, I struck up a conversation with the owner of the white S650. I think subconsciously I just gravitated towards it because you know, Mustang things. Jacobs already started changing things up even though he’s only had it for a short time. Some exhaust work, wheels, and subtle exterior mods have already happened, and even though he mentioned it’s good for now – we all know how that ends up going.
I’m all for more automotive things happening here in the RGV. Well, MOST automotive things – but I’m not going to beat a dead horse (takeovers) with a stick anymore. But when you have multiple people getting events like this started, it’s all about keeping it going. Knowing the same event will be there next week at the same location and same time makes all the difference. I’m really looking forward to seeing what these guys keep doing, and overall being able to see the community here in the Rio Grande Valley grow even more. Till next time!
Huge Thanks to
