Cars by the Harbor

It’s been over 4 months since the last post and I find myself at another solid meet up. And like last time, this was another early morning meet with some great rides and getting to catch up with people I haven’t seen in a minute. These early morning meet ups are more my speed these days, not literally – there’s no way I’d keep up with any of these guys on a drive.

These get togethers aren’t about size, and some of the better one’s don’t have to be. There’s a time and place for those large meets where you have cars and trucks come out of the garage for the first time in months in hopes of winning a prize. This? This is for stepping away from your regular week of clocking in and out, regular duties at home, and allows you hang out or meet some people that share the same passion for anything on wheels. The parking lot was scattered with people who have called themselves ‘enthusiasts’ for years and have managed to get behind the wheel of some incredible cars, along with those who are just starting to see what this whole world is all about in the first car they’re starting to modify.

I’m fortunate enough to have been around and going out to stuff like this since 04′, and it’s damn good to see how far things have come. And I’m just glad I still get to go our there and document it like I’ve been trying to after all these years. I can’t wait for the next hang, for getting to book the first feature after so long, and of course to see how the local community here continues to evolve. Thanks again to everyone involved for putting this together, and to everyone who made it out – see you at the next one!

Revision, it was brought to my attention that this morning’s meetup was put together by two seventh graders, Alissandro & his friend Aryan! These two took the time to scope out a location with enough parking space for the size of event they wanted, then set up a meeting with management, created a flyer, and got the ball rolling. All of this while being this young- hell, when I was that age I think I was still collecting beanie-babies and pokemon cards hoping I’d make a fortune and retire at 25 or something. Sometimes I’m all “doom and gloom” when I think about the future of local car meets, I mean can you blame me with the way these “take-overs” have started spreading further down Texas? It’s pointless, careless, and does not represent what this whole thing is about. But then you have something like this happen and although it’s just a simple get together to some, I doubt any of us were going to these lengths so others could park their cars and enjoy them. Cheers to the two young men who hosted this morning’s event.
