Black Diamond AutoWerkz – Cars, Coffee, & Donuts

I told myself I would start going to more local meets now that I’m keeping the site more active. It’s funny, years ago I’d groan at the though of waking up at 7 AM for anything other than work – but these days the early morning meet ups are more of my speed. Sure the humidity hits you like you’re walking in soup, even that early, but what a better way to start the day than with a iced coffee (still not a fan of hot coffee) – and to be around some amazing cars from here in town.

Call it social anxiety, call it being extremely punctual, whatever the case – I arrived to the morning meet 15 min before the start time listed on the flyer, 8am. By the time I pulled up my attention was caught by a pair of Lamborghinis I’m already familiar with down here, clearly a sign of the type of meet this would turn out to be. I was greeted by the owner of Black Diamond McAllen, the host of the event, and let me know where to park as some of the parking area was already reserved. I definitely appreciate the planning so moved over to the parking area off to the side, grabbed my gear, and walked over to the main entrance where a local coffee truck company I’ve heard of was setting up. I dont go big for breakfast but they did have a great spread of Donuts from Don Donuts, but I kept eyeing that portable coffee setup like a hawk.

I grabbed my iced mocha latte, recommended to me by this mornings Barista- who was pulling shots solo, a feeling I’m all too familiar with haha. There was a lot of familiar cars and faces, but what I loved about this was the blend of different car cultures that made it out. Front and center were the two exotics I mentioned earlier, then you had the classic VW guys, a group of newer bagged imports and domestics, some American muscle cars, and then you had the LGR crew pull up that covered everything from some Vettes, Bentleys, and Ferraris. As I’ve mentioned before, for me a good meet isn’t about how packed the place gets, it’s about the type of cars that pull up. Now I’m not saying it wasn’t packed, nor am I saying the cars that showed up this morning are in any way better than those that weren’t, I don’t beat around the bush so if I was going to say it – I’d say it. But I like variety, I like seeing a immaculately kept ZR1 parked right behind a pretty aggressively negative cambered out Accord. I also like seeing how much media there seems to be out there these days and got to talk gear a bit with one of them (shout out RPMLENS on IG).

It was a hot and humid Sunday, nothing new – but I can’t think of a better way to end the weekend than snapping some photos of a local hang. Again huge shoutout to the host of the event, Black Diamond McAllen – who offers a variety of services including window tinting, ceramic coating, PPF, auto detailing, and more.
