    Open Heart – Open Throttle

    Hunter Drift

It had been 3 years since my last drift event, some friends of mine decided they would make it out to this drift clinic last December and I tagged along. I was mainly there to document the stuff on the track, off the track, and get to shoot cars doing things we really don’t see down here in the valley. Another thing we don’t see too often down here are fully kitted cars, let alone a car this like that that actually gets loose on the track. Me being the type of guy I am, I kept to myself and just took a few photos of Hunter’s car – posted them on the blog, and saw him share a few over different social networks. When I found out we’d be back up for the Lone Star Drift series for round 1 – I had to take a shot and see if he’d be interested in a feature.

Lone Star Drift – Round 1!

    S2K NST Booth

I hadn’t shot an official Round of the Lone Star Drift Series since back in 2013, Round 6, and I definitely am going to try to make up for that this year! I’m glad me and some friends were able to make the 6+ hour drive up from the RGV to get some great photos, I learned more about the event and how it all works since I’m still new to all this, and of course having some great times off the track as well!

American Muscle Cars and the drag strip go hand in hand, and in the stands you’ll see spectators of all ages and all walks of life. You don’t have to be a car guy to appreciate the sound coming from the burnout box, leading up to staging, and ultimately lining up and dropping the hammer split seconds before that last green light comes on. I started Gear-Trends with the mindset to photograph cars, talk about them a bit, their story and just inspire people with what some locally have done. Up to this point it’s primarily been street cars, although most of the cars we’ve featured can hold their own on the track. This year we’re starting a new series that will be separate from our standard features, and we’re calling this series “The Lords Of The 1320”!
